Today had been a rough day for me as I sat down and began to type this post. The harsh reality of having a walk with God, is that it can be a very humbling and convicting relationship. To start off, we need to know the difference between conviction and condemnation; two vastly opposing things. On one hand you have conviction; the work of God through the Holy Spirit within the hearts and minds of  His people. On the other hand, we have condemnation; man’s self-inflicted torment.
We as Christians need to understand the difference between the two, because if we do not yield to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, we begin to idolize ourselves with our condemnation. But how is this possible? You see, condemning ourselves because of our actions is really you subliminally stating you are bigger than God’s love and grace; that you are your God. This begins to lead us down a winding path towards our own self-fulfilling prophecy that we are not good enough… But God. But God is constantly calling out to us in the faint whispers of the wind, drawing us closer into His presence. All we have to do is choose to listen to Him; the creator of everything; the one who is bigger than anything you have going on in your life, and the one who is bigger than your condemnation. Something to remember that often gets misquoted is 1 Corinthians 10:13 which says,
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
People often mistake this for Paul saying that God will not giving you anything that you cannot handle. In fact, if that were true then why do you need God at all? Why then even believe in Philippians 4:13 when it clearly says:
“For I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
God allows for us to experience things that we cannot handle to point us back to Him. This isn’t me saying that God is the cause for the bad events of the world. No, that is because we live in a sinful world. Romans 6:23 tells us:
“For the wages of sin is death, but the Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ.”
Secondly, we must be humble and serving, but also bold in our walk with Christ. There is a delicate balance between the two that we must find and learn to master. The dangers of having too much humility in your servanthood, is that others may walk on you. Yet the dangers of having too much boldness is that you can inadvertently be arrogant. Unfortunately there are many Christians within today’s Church that have not found this balance.
Lastly, the harsh reality of a walk with God is that it is not going to be easy. In fact it will more than likely be the hardest thing you have ever done. But I guarantee you, it will by and large be the best decision that you will ever make.
If you haven’t accepted Jesus into your heart as your Lord and savior, do so right now. Watch and see all that He would do in your life. If you no longer have any joy, or are tired of just being tired; give it all to Jesus who already bore it all on the cross so that you would not have to. Draw closer to Him every day. Have a deeper relationship with Christ and watch how He will change your life.
